On Friday, the 19th of March, I spoke at the 2103 virtual meetup of the Workplace Ninja User Group Switzerland. During this event which lasts a whole day I presented two sessions. One, together with Erik Loef was about: “What is this Modern Authentication everyone is talking about?” and the other one was about: “Designing and building your Microsoft Endpoint Manager/Intune environment for Operations”.
The Workplace Ninja User Group Switzerland 2103 meetup is organized by Mirko Colemberg and Alain Schneiter. This day full of sessions related to device management and security has an impressive lineup with Microsoft MVPs, Microsoft Employees and community experts sharing knowledge. Please check the following link for more information about all the other great sessions during the day: WPNinja UG CH 2103.
The sessions haven’t been recorded, and are therefore not available online. Thank you Workplace Ninja User Group Switzerland for allowing me to speak during this great event.
Session 1: What is this Modern Authentication everyone is talking about?
During this session, which I co-presented with Erik Loef we talked about why phasing out Legacy Authentication is a good idea even though Microsoft postponed its decision to phase out legacy authentication for Exchange Online for now.
We explained what legacy authentication is, how modern authentication works and how you can move from legacy authentication the “easy peasy” way and how you should do it in the “real world”.
If you want more information about this subject I want to suggest that you read the following articles on my blog:
- Microsoft is going to disable basic/legacy authentication for Exchange Online. What does that actually mean and does that impact me?
- Did you already modify your Azure AD consent defaults settings? Here is why you should
- Some welcome additions to the Admin consent workflow in Azure AD

Session 2: Designing and building your Microsoft Endpoint Manager/Intune environment for Operations
During this session, I explained my best practices when it comes to designing and building a Microsoft Endpoint Manager/Intune environment. The session discussed whether you should assign to device or user groups and its caveats. I also explained how I do it, and what consequences this has if you decide to adopt my methodology.
If you want more information about this subject I want to suggest that you read the following articles on my blog:
